About David Vance
David Vance Benson is a dedicated personal injury attorney based in Lancaster, South Carolina — His legal career spans nearly four decades, having begun in 1984. Originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1976, laying a strong educational foundation for his future legal endeavors. After completing his undergraduate studies, David pursued a Juris Doctor at Ohio Northern University College of Law, graduating in 1984. During his time in law school, he worked as a clerk for the Third District Court of Appeals in Lima, Ohio.
Additionally, he worked as a research assistant for Professor Vernon Traster, which further developed his legal research skills. Upon being admitted to the South Carolina Bar in the same year, David began his legal career in private practice, quickly establishing himself as a knowledgeable and skilled attorney. In his early career, David served as an Assistant Solicitor for the 16th Judicial Circuit of South Carolina. In this role, he tried numerous cases to verdict and led the Drug Forfeiture Department, gaining invaluable courtroom experience. His tenure in this position solidified his understanding of the legal system and prepared him for the challenges he would face in private practice.
In 1991, David joined Elrod Pope Accident & Injury Attorneys, where he currently serves as Of-Counsel. His focus has primarily been on assisting injured workers as they navigate the workers' compensation system, often facing obstacles from employers and insurance companies. In addition to his work in workers' compensation, David also handles automobile accident cases, further broadening his expertise in personal injury law. In 2014, he became a Circuit Court Mediator, a role that has enhanced his ability to resolve disputes effectively and amicably. His commitment to the legal profession is reflected in his memberships with the South Carolina State Bar and the York County Bar Association.
