About David M.

David M. Hazan trained first as a scientist and political thinker before turning to the law. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Emory University in 1999, completing a double major in Political Science and Biology. He then attended Northwestern University School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 2004.

Early in law school he sought practical courtroom experience. He worked as a summer associate at Perini & Hoerger in 2002 and served as a Summer Honors Intern with the New York City Law Department in 2003. That same year he was a judicial extern for United States District Court Judge William J. Hibbler in the Northern District of Illinois. In 2004 he completed an externship with the Cook County State's Lawyer's Office.

Upon graduation Hazan joined the New York City Law Department. He began as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Special Federal Litigation Division in 2004. His responsibilities included handling federal litigation on behalf of the city. He remained in that division and was promoted to Senior Counsel in 2007. Those years provided regular exposure to complex federal claims and to the procedures of large municipal defense practice.

In 2010 he left city government and co-founded Jacobs & Hazan, PLLC. He has worked in private practice since then, drawing on his prior experience in federal litigation. In 2011 he expanded his professional activities to include legal education, joining the Lawline.com faculty and contributing to continuing legal education programs.

Hazan is admitted to practice in New York. His career shows a steady movement from public service into private practice, with recurring involvement in federal litigation matters. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases and attentive to courtroom procedure.

Today he practices from Jacobs & Hazan, PLLC. His work centers on civil litigation matters in New York.
