About David M.
David M. Curtis built a legal foundation over decades of education and public service. He earned a B.S. in philosophy and economics from the University of Oklahoma in 1965, followed by a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1969. He returned to academia to complete an LL.M. in labor law at SMU Dedman School of Law in 1984.
His early career included military service as Chief, Trial Counsel for the 101st Airborne Division in 1972. He moved into state legal work a few years later, serving as a district lawyer in the Third Judicial District of Oklahoma beginning in 1976 and then as the city lawyer for the City of Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1980. That mix of trial experience and municipal practice shaped his approach to litigation and public law.
Curtis entered private practice in the mid-1980s. He worked at Lytle, Soule & Curlee after completing his LL.M. and later joined Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP in 1988. In 2008 he founded DAVID M. CURTIS & ASSOCIATES, PC, establishing a firm through which he continued handling employment, labor, and related civil matters.
Alongside practice, Curtis holds professional credentials that speak to his area of work. He is Board Certified in Labor & Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He also holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources designation from the Society for Human Resource Management, a credential that complements his legal work on workplace issues.
He is admitted to practice in Oklahoma and Texas and is authorized to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court. His admissions extend to multiple federal appellate courts, including the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, Tenth and Eleventh Circuits. Those credentials have allowed him to handle matters at both trial and appellate levels across jurisdictions.
Curtis participates in professional organizations that intersect law and employment policy. He was elected to the American Law Institute in 2006 and has been an elected Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Law since 2005. He has been involved with the State of Texas Center for Professional Ethics since 2001 and is a member of the Texas Pro Bono College, where he has been listed since 2000.
His career combines public-sector litigation, municipal advisory work, private firm practice, and pro bono and professional service. He currently concentrates his practice on labor and employment matters.
