About David
David Ludwig has spent his career moving between classrooms, courtrooms and appellate benches. He studied philosophy as an undergraduate and later turned to questions of law and religion. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy from California State University - Sonoma State University in 1997, an M.A. in Religious Studies from Naropa Institute in 2001 and a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in 2006.
He began practicing law after law school. His first position was as an associate at Meyer, Klipper & Mohr, PLLC in 2006. A year later he joined Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig PLLC as an associate. He took on a teaching role at his alma mater in 2008, serving as an adjunct professor at The George Washington University Law School while continuing his practice. In 2013 he became a partner at Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig PLLC. Over the years he has balanced litigation work with teaching and firm responsibilities.
Ludwig is admitted in several trial and appellate jurisdictions. His admissions include the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, and he is authorized to appear before federal appellate panels, including the D.C. Circuit, the 3rd Circuit, the 4th Circuit, the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those entries on his record underscore frequent appellate work and federal litigation in his docket.
Colleagues describe him as deliberate in court. He is known for thorough briefs and a measured oral style. Students at the law school met a teacher who could translate appellate theory into courtroom practice. Partners relied on him for appellate strategy and for managing complex filings in multi-jurisdiction matters.
Case work has ranged across federal and state matters. He handles appeals and federal litigation, and he regularly prepares petitions, merits briefs and replies. That combination of trial-era filings and focused appellate argument gives him a practical view of how trial records translate into appellate issues. He has run cases through several distinct appellate forums and has experience coordinating multi-jurisdictional litigation efforts.
Today he is a partner at Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig PLLC and maintains an active appellate and federal litigation practice. He represents clients in appellate courts and handles federal and state litigation.
