David Lee took a conventional path into law but has shaped a steady local practice over two decades. He earned his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 2000 after completing a B.A. in psychology at the University of Illinois–Chicago in 1994. Those years gave him a grounding in both legal doctrine and an understanding of human behavior that would inform his later courtroom work.
He launched his private practice in 2006, opening the Law Offices of David Lee. Since then he has maintained a practice in Illinois and built a profile among county-level courts in the region.
