About Matthew M.
Matthew M. Williams brought a practical curiosity to law after completing an undergraduate degree in psychology at Northeastern Illinois University in 1993. He earned his J.D. from Northern Illinois University in 2000. That combination of studies — human behavior followed by law — shaped how he approaches family disputes and client interviews.
He cut his teeth in public service early on. In 2002 he worked as a 711 intern at the Kane County State s Lawyer Office. The following year he joined J. Richard Kulerski, P.C. as a lawyer and began handling divorce and domestic relations matters across Illinois. From the start he split his time between case preparation and direct client work.
Training and continuing education are regular parts of his practice. He completed more than 30 hours of domestic relations training and seminars through the Illinois State Bar Association. In 2007 he finished training in Collaborative Law at the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois. Those courses add tools beyond litigation for resolving family disputes, including structured negotiation and collaborative processes.
Williams has been active in bar and community groups for two decades. He holds membership in the Illinois State Bar Association since 2003 and served on the DuPage County Bar Family Law Committee beginning in 2004. He joined the Kane County Bar Association in 2009 and remains a member. Earlier memberships included the American Bar Association from 2003 to 2006, and he participated in Kendall County bar activities, including work as a Guardian Ad Litem in 2009 and 2010. He was also involved with the Aurora Chamber of Commerce during that period.
Colleagues describe his work as steady and practical. He prepares cases for court and for negotiation. He has experience handling contested divorce matters, custody disputes and property division. His background in psychology informs client interviews and helps when cases involve high emotion or complex family dynamics. His collaborative law training offers an alternative path for clients who prefer to settle outside the courtroom.
He maintains a private practice under the name Matthew M. Williams, P.C., practicing in Illinois. He handles divorce and family law matters and combines courtroom preparation with settlement options available through collaborative and negotiated approaches.
