About David L
David L Scher graduated from Fordham University School of Law in 2003, after beginning his studies in 2000. He earned his J.D. at a time when classroom debate and trial practice were moving into new forms. The law school years set the foundation for a career spent largely in courtrooms and association halls rather than in academic posts.
Soon after finishing law school, Scher joined Block O Toole & Murphy as a partner in 2003. That role placed him at the center of litigated matters handled by the firm. Over the years he has remained active in trial practice in New York, building a record of courtroom work and case management. He is admitted to practice in New York and has concentrated his professional life on matters that require trial-level advocacy.
Professional service has been a consistent part of Scher’s career. He has been a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association since 2003 and served on its Labor Law Committee. In 2023 he assumed the association’s presidency. Those roles have involved organizing educational programs, working with fellow trial lawyers, and representing the association at events and meetings around the state. Outside the bar and trial groups, Scher has taken part in charitable work. Since 2008 he has been on the fundraising committee for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, contributing time to philanthropic outreach and donor engagement.
Colleagues describe Scher as someone who prefers the test of evidence and argument in court to other kinds of legal work. He has focused on trial advocacy and matters tied to labor law issues through his committee work. His long-standing membership in trial lawyer circles reflects a practice centered on litigation in New York courts. He continues to divide his time between handling cases at Block O Toole & Murphy and participating in association leadership and charitable activities. He maintains an active litigation practice in New York handling trial matters and labor law cases.
