About David Keith
David Keith Cahoone is a senior partner at The Dorcey Law Firm in Sarasota, Florida. He has been practicing law for over 30 years, specializing in business and taxation, estate planning, and tax law. David holds a Juris Doctor from Western New England College School of Law, earned in 1985, and a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida College of Law, completed in 1986. He was admitted to the Florida Bar on October 25, 1985. At The Dorcey Law Firm, David co-chairs the Advanced Planning Department, focusing on wealth transfer planning, charitable planning, trusts and estates, income tax planning, and business planning.
He has significant experience working with ultra-high-net-worth families and individuals, assisting them in designing, implementing, and supporting comprehensive plans to achieve their unique goals. In addition to his legal practice, David is actively involved in the charitable sector. He serves on the board of directors for the Charitable Gift Planners of Southwest Florida and is a member of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council. David has co-authored "Protect and Enhance Your Estate," published by McGraw-Hill, and "The Living Trust Workbook," published by the Penguin Group. He has been quoted in national newspapers and magazines and has appeared as a guest on various radio talk shows.
David is also a frequent keynote speaker for local and national organizations. Before joining The Dorcey Law Firm, David served as the Director of Philanthropic Strategies and Planned Giving at Brown University for five years. In this role, he collaborated with the Advancement office, faculty, staff, and alumni to develop and achieve donors' charitable and financial goals in a tax-efficient manner. David is a member of the Florida Bar, holding an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, indicating the highest level of professional excellence. He is also a member of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council, the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners.
The Sarasota County Bar Association, with active participation in the Business Law, Tax Law, and Real Property and Trust Law sections. David resides in Sarasota with his wife, Donna. They enjoy spending time with their two daughters, Sarah and Samantha, and are actively involved in local charities, including the YMCA.
