David John Weiland is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1992 and holds bar number 160447. Mr. Weiland earned his Juris Doctor degree from the San Joaquin College of Law in 1992, where he served as the Managing Editor of the San Joaquin Agricultural Law Review. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at California State University, Fresno, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1972. During his time at San Joaquin College of Law, he was actively involved in the school's legal community and contributed to the development of its law review publication.
Mr. Weiland concentrates his practice in the areas of construction law, business litigation, real estate, professional liability defense, and municipal law. He represents clients in matters involving construction defects, design professional liability, municipal law, business disputes, real property litigation, mediation, and arbitration. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Weiland has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Fresno, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to joining Coleman & Horowitt, LLP in 2014, he was a shareholder and President at Dowling Aaron Incorporated, where he served as chair of the litigation department and public agency department. He has also served as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Fresno and Merced Superior Courts.
Mr. Weiland is an active member of the Fresno County Bar Association, participating in the Litigation, Real Property, and Construction sections. He holds membership in the American Bar Association's Litigation and Construction sections, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He has been named a Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters from 2009 to 2019 and holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. In 2025, he was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Weiland is also involved in community organizations, serving on the Board of Trustees of San Joaquin College of Law since 1999 and as a past President of the Fresno State Bulldog Foundation.
