About David J.
David J. Winthers began his path to the law in the Midwest. He earned a B.A. in economics from Wheaton College in 1977 and completed his J.D. at The John Marshall Law School in 1980. The timeline is straightforward. Education led quickly to a courtroom and an office.
Fresh out of law school, he joined Mirabella & Kincaid, P.C. in 1980. He served as an associate and later as a partner at that firm. Those early years put him in the thick of client work and firm operations. They also set the stage for the next move in his career.
In 1987 he became managing partner at Antoniolli, Cerny & Winthers, P.C. He has held that leadership post for decades. As managing partner he has overseen the firm’s daily practice and administrative responsibilities. Colleagues and clients have looked to him for direction on cases and firm matters. His role blends hands-on case work with the demands of running a small firm.
Winthers is admitted in Illinois and is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals. He holds memberships in the DuPage County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. Those affiliations place him in the networks that shape local and statewide practice. They also provide the regular contacts that lawyers rely on for referrals and peer review.
His career spans a period of change in the legal profession. He started in a two-attorney firm model and moved into a leadership role as the business side of law became more complex. That experience gives him familiarity with both courtroom procedure and the operational side of a law practice. He has spent years guiding clients through state-level matters and handling issues that require appellate admission.
Outside of firm duties, Winthers’s background in economics informs his approach to legal problems. He holds degrees that pair legal training with economic reasoning. That combination influences how he assesses damages, costs and strategic choices in litigation and negotiation.
Today he continues as managing partner at Antoniolli, Cerny & Winthers, P.C. He practices in Illinois and maintains admission to the U.S. Court of Appeals, where appropriate for his clients’ matters.
