About David Gregory

David Gregory Cohen is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1995. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Cohen is the founder and principal attorney at Cohen Defense Group, a law firm specializing in criminal defense located in Auburn, California. He has been practicing law for over 30 years, serving clients throughout Placer County and the surrounding regions.

Mr. Cohen earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly Hastings College of the Law), in 1994. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at Northwestern University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies in 1991. During his time at UC Law San Francisco, he participated in a criminal defense clinic, which significantly influenced his decision to pursue a career in criminal law.

Mr. Cohen concentrates his practice in the areas of criminal defense, with a particular focus on defending clients against driving under the influence (DUI) charges. He represents individuals in cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies, including drug-related offenses and theft crimes. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, pre-trial motions, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.

Throughout his career, Mr. Cohen has handled numerous cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Placer and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding Cohen Defense Group, he worked as an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Mark A. Berg in Auburn, where he began his legal career in 1995. In 2016, he and his wife, Alison, took over the practice, building it into the largest private criminal defense team in Placer County.

Mr. Cohen is an active member of the State Bar of California and has been involved with the Placer County Bar Association since 1996, serving on its Board of Directors from 2001 to 2005 and as President in 2004. He is also a member of the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, the California DUI Lawyers Association, and the National College for DUI Defense. Additionally, he has served as a mentoring attorney and judge for the Peer Court program and regularly volunteers to teach classes on the legal aspects of DUI. Mr. Cohen is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of Placer County effectively.
