About David C
David C Newton earned his law degree from Boston University School of Law in 2005 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Business at the State University of New York College at Brockport in 2002. He arrived at law school after a traditional undergraduate course in business and left with a J.D. in hand. The sequence set him up for both private practice and public service.
He began his post-law school career in private practice, joining Goodwin Procter LLP in 2008 as a complex commercial litigation associate. That role exposed him to high-stakes civil disputes and the demands of major firm practice. In 2009 he moved into public-sector work, serving as an Assistant District Lawyer in the Richmond County District Lawyer's Office. He followed that with a similar position in the Suffolk County District Lawyer's Office in 2011. Those years in district offices added courtroom experience and familiarity with trial procedures.
In 2013 he took on a leadership role at The Newton Law Office and has served as managing partner since. Running a smaller firm required a different set of skills than either big-firm practice or district office work. He has overseen case intake, managed litigation calendars and coordinated with other attorneys in the firm. The transition from associate to managing partner reflects a move toward guiding client strategy and firm operations rather than performing only individual casework.
Across his career he has worked in two jurisdictions — Massachusetts and New York — and those admissions have shaped where he practices and the kinds of matters he accepts. His background includes complex commercial litigation from his time at Goodwin Procter and prosecutorial experience from the district lawyer's offices. That combination gives him familiarity with both civil litigation mechanics and the dynamics of courtroom practice.
He maintains an office in Northern Massachusetts and handles matters that draw on his mixed private- and public-sector background. Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer who has navigated large-firm procedures, district office demands and the responsibilities of firm management. He currently practices from his Northern Massachusetts office, where his work focuses on commercial litigation and related civil matters.
