About Darryn L

Darryn L Duchon combines a background in accounting with more than three decades in the legal field. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana University–Bloomington in 1982. He later completed his Juris Doctor at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1986. Those two threads — numbers and law — have shaped how he approaches disputes and casework.

He was admitted to practice in Indiana in 1989. Early in his career he moved between roles that required courtroom work and roles that required quiet negotiation. Over time he added formal training and practice in mediation and in parenting coordination, adapting his practice to the needs of families and courts seeking alternatives to litigation.

As an attorney he handles matters that often touch both legal and financial questions. His accounting background makes him comfortable reviewing financial disclosures, tax returns and support calculations. He can parse spreadsheets and translate figures into practical advice for clients facing property division or support disputes. He does not limit himself to numbers, though; he also counsels clients on process, procedures and the likely paths a family matter may take through the courts.

Mediation and parenting coordination are central to his current practice. In mediation he serves as a neutral facilitator, helping parties identify options and reach agreements outside of court. As a parenting coordinator he works with parents and their attorneys to implement parenting plans and to resolve ongoing disputes about custody, time-sharing and decision-making. That work tends to be pragmatic. It often requires a mix of legal knowledge, patience and a willingness to propose creative, workable arrangements.

Colleagues and clients who work with him note an emphasis on clear communication. He prefers practical steps over abstract arguments. When evidence or numbers are involved he expects records to be organized and accessible. When emotions are involved he encourages orderly processes and enforceable agreements.

He maintains his practice in Indiana and holds membership in professional associations relevant to his roles. He continues to balance litigation-ready representation with out-of-court dispute resolution, handling matters that range from financial settlements to the day-to-day details of shared parenting. He currently practices as a lawyer, mediator and parenting coordinator.
