About Daphne
Daphne Edwards earned her J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1997 after completing a B.S. in Political Science at the University of Oregon in 1991. Her legal education was followed immediately by a judicial clerkship at the North Carolina Supreme Court for Justice Robert Orr in 1997. That early exposure to appellate work set the tone for a career that would move between public service, federal work, and private practice.
After her clerkship, Edwards spent a year as Assistant Counsel in the United States Senate Legislative Counsel’s Office in 1998. She returned to the federal judiciary in 2002 as a staff attorney and judicial law clerk for Judge Proctor Hug Jr. on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Those roles deepened her experience with complex legal research and briefing, and they gave her repeated contact with appellate procedure and statutory interpretation. She later transitioned back to state service and to private practice, taking roles that combined litigation, counseling, and dispute resolution.
In 2013 Edwards held several positions that marked a pivot toward family law. She served as an Assistant Lawyer General at the North Carolina Department of Justice, and she established a practice under the name Daphne Edwards Family Law. That same year she also began teaching as an adjunct professor at Campbell Law School and at Golden Gate University School of Law, bringing courtroom and office experience into the classroom. In 2016 she was of counsel at Cheshire, Parker, Schneider & Bryan. In 2018 she opened her own firm, Daphne Edwards Divorce & Family Law, PC.
Edwards is a Certified Family Financial Mediator through the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission. Her practice sits at the intersection of family law and financial issues, and she serves on several local bar committees that address alimony, continuing legal education, legislation, and social engagement. She has been a member of the North Carolina Bar Association since 1997 and joined the American Bar Association’s Family Law Section in 2014. She also holds memberships in the Wake County Bar Association, the North Carolina Association of Women Lawyers, and North Carolina Advocates for Justice.
Her work combines litigation, negotiation, and mediation in divorce and family law matters. She handles cases that involve financial settlements, alimony considerations, and dispute resolution processes. She practices family law and mediation in North Carolina, handling divorce and financial settlement matters in her firm today.
