About Daniel W.
Daniel W. McKay trained first as a historian and political scientist before turning to law. He completed a B.A. in History and Political Science at Boise State University in 1997 after beginning studies in 1994. He then entered Brigham Young University’s law program in 1998 and earned his Juris Doctor in 2000.
Early in his career McKay gravitated toward trial work and legal education. He has been active in the Utah Trial Lawyers’ Association since 2000, and he joined both the Utah Association for Justice and the Utah Central Bar Association in 2014. His participation in those organizations has included regular attendance at seminars and continuing education programs. In 2012 he served on the Utah State Board of Mandatory Continuing Legal Education, a role that put him on the side of program oversight and lawyer training.
McKay is licensed to practice in Idaho, Nevada and Utah. That multi-jurisdictional status has allowed him to handle matters that cross state lines and to coordinate with lawyers in neighboring jurisdictions. Colleagues describe him as a steady presence in the courtroom and at bar events. He often appears at local bar meetings in the communities where he practices.
His professional life is marked more by steady participation than public fanfare. He has maintained long-term membership in trial-focused organizations, which suggests sustained courtroom practice and an interest in the rules that govern civil procedure and evidence. He has also taken roles that involve shaping how lawyers keep their skills current, most notably through his 2012 board membership on the Utah State Board of Mandatory Continuing Legal Education.
McKay operates out of offices in Spanish Fork and West Jordan. Those locations serve local residents and businesses and provide a base for litigation and client consultations across the region. He continues to engage in bar association activities and continuing education, balancing casework with professional service.
He maintains an active trial practice from his offices in Spanish Fork and West Jordan, handling civil litigation matters on behalf of his clients.
