About Daniel T.

Daniel T. Castagna trained first as an undergraduate student of psychology before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Vanderbilt University and then took his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2003. Those years set the stage for a practice rooted in courtroom procedure and written advocacy.

Early in his career Castagna moved into litigation work. Over time he established a practice that spans matters in Tennessee courts and in the federal appellate system. He is admitted to practice in Tennessee and is admitted to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and his work has brought him into contact with both trial and appellate dockets. He handles filings, appellate briefs and courtroom arguments that require attention to procedural detail and an understanding of appellate standards.

Colleagues describe Castagna as methodical in preparing a record and clear in written advocacy. He combines a background in social science and law, a mix that informs how he approaches client interviews, evidence assessment and persuasive writing. The psychology training that preceded his law degree appears in his approach to fact development and witness preparation. That early academic work gave him a different lens on the human elements of litigation.

Castagna’s legal education bridged two regions. Vanderbilt offered a foundation in critical thinking and research. Seton Hall provided the formal legal training and opportunities typical of a law school curriculum: moot court, legal writing and intensive doctrinal study. He completed his J.D. in 2003 and moved into practice in Tennessee, where he now conducts most of his work.

His courtroom practice includes drafting briefs, arguing motions, and presenting appellate arguments. He is experienced in preparing appellate filings for the Sixth Circuit and in managing cases through state-court processes. He is known among peers for a careful approach to procedural questions and for thorough brief-writing. He balances written advocacy with oral presentation, often translating complex factual records into concise legal narratives.

As of 2026 Castagna maintains a practice based in Tennessee and appears regularly in matters that reach the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. His current practice centers on appellate litigation and state-court matters in Tennessee.
