About Daniel Mayer
Daniel Mayer Hawley built a foundation in the liberal arts before turning to law. He attended Grinnell College where he earned a B.A. in Political Science, German and Western European Studies, then completed his J.D. at Hamline University School of Law in 2006. Those studies combined an interest in politics, language and institutions. They shaped the way he approaches legal questions.
After law school he took a position as a law clerk in the Ninth Judicial District in 2009. The clerkship exposed him to courtroom procedure and judicial decisionmaking in Minnesota trial courts. It was a formative period. Working alongside judges and court staff, he observed how factual disputes are distilled into legal issues and how rulings are reached under pressure.
In 2012 he joined Gammello, Qualley, Pearson & Mallak PLLC as an associate. At that firm he handled a variety of matters typical for an associate attorney, developing practical skills in case preparation, client communication and motion practice. His time there added experience in client representation and the day-to-day demands of law firm work. The move also placed him squarely in the Minnesota legal market.
He maintains memberships in professional organizations and stays connected to peers in the state bar community. Those ties keep him engaged with changes in court rules and procedural developments. They also provide a network for referrals and consultations when matters raise novel or complex questions.
Colleagues describe him as steady and attentive to the details of a file. He brings a measured approach to fact gathering and legal research. He favors clear explanations to clients and judges. His background in political science and German studies sometimes informs his perspective, particularly when matters touch on regulatory or cross-cultural issues.
His career path follows a conventional arc: liberal arts undergraduate work, law school, a judicial clerkship, and then private practice. Each stage added a layer of courtroom familiarity and practical lawyering skills. He remains active in Minnesota legal circles and reserves time for professional development.
He currently practices law in Minnesota, representing clients in matters before state courts.
