About Daniel
Daniel Kotin has built a career at the center of civil trial practice and legal education. He earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College and completed his J.D. at Loyola University Chicago School of Law in the early 1990s. Those years set the stage for a career that mixes courtroom work, bar leadership and teaching.
He joined Corboy & Demetrio as a partner in the mid-1990s and spent many years there handling jury trials and complex tort matters. In 2013 he moved to Tomasik Kotin Kasserman, LLC as a partner. His practice includes work in state and federal court and he is admitted to the Illinois bar, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (including the trial bar) and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Kotin’s resume lists a long string of professional roles. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and been on its faculty since 2000. He has taken part in the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates as a delegate since 2018. Locally, he has been active in the Chicago Bar Association for decades, including stints as chair of committees, officer positions and service as president beginning in 2016. He has also been a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Association for Justice and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
Alongside bar activity, Kotin has maintained ties to legal education at his alma mater. He has been an adjunct professor teaching Illinois civil litigation at Loyola University Chicago School of Law and has served as an adjunct faculty member and judge in the law school’s trial advocacy program. He has coached Loyola’s national mock trial team and held roles on the law school’s board of governors and other internal committees over many years.
His contributions extend into the nonprofit and editorial spheres. He has been involved with the Chicago Bar Foundation’s grants committee and served on boards tied to public interest causes. Since 2012 he has been a peer review editor for Trial magazine published by the American Association for Justice. He has also participated in committees and leadership efforts for the National Conference of Bar Presidents and other professional groups.
The through line in Kotin’s career is courtroom practice and trial training. He handles civil trials and tort litigation and combines active trial work with sustained involvement in bar governance and trial advocacy education. He currently practices civil trial litigation, concentrating on tort and personal-injury cases.
