About Daniel Joseph

Daniel Joseph Rothman built his legal foundation at Drake University. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in rhetoric and history in 1998 and moved straight into law school at Drake, earning his J.D. in 2001. His academic record shows an early and sustained interest in argument and public affairs.

After law school, Rothman began his legal career in public service. In 2002 he joined the Story County Attorney's Office as a prosecuting lawyer. That role put him in court regularly. He handled arraignments, pretrial hearings and trials. Prosecutorial work in a county office tends to be fast-paced. Cases arrive quickly and require swift legal and factual assessment. Rothman’s years at Story County gave him repeated courtroom exposure and time managing a varied caseload.

By 2007 he had moved on to the Polk County Attorney’s Office, again serving as a prosecuting lawyer. Polk County is larger and busier, and the work reflected that scale. The office handled an array of criminal matters. Rothman worked alongside other county attorneys and both junior and senior staff. Those positions involved drafting charging documents, negotiating plea resolutions and presenting evidence to judges and juries. The record of service in two county prosecutor offices indicates substantial trial and prosecutorial experience across different prosecutorial settings.

Outside the courthouse, Rothman has maintained his standing in the profession. He holds membership in the State Bar of Iowa. That association is the primary professional organization for lawyers in the state and provides continuing legal education and ethical oversight for practicing attorneys.

Rothman’s career path is straightforward. Education at Drake, early years in Story County, then a move to Polk County. The sequence maps a prosecutor’s progression through offices of different sizes and demands. It also reflects long-term engagement with public sector legal work rather than a quick pivot into other specialties.

As of 2026 he practices law in Iowa. His background is rooted in criminal prosecution and courtroom litigation, and his current practice continues to center on criminal matters in the state.
