About Dan Rowan

Dan Rowan Cortright trained on the West Coast. He earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and later took his law degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1999. Those academic steps set a practical course rather than an academic one. He moved into law practice and stayed in roles that required hands-on courtroom and transactional work.

His early years in practice were spent at established firms. In 2002 he joined Jeffer Mangels Butler & Marmaro LLP as an associate. He moved to Walsworth Franklin Bevins & McCall LLP in 2005 and rose to senior associate. In 2009 he took a position at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith as an associate, gaining exposure to larger firm procedures and client portfolios. Those stops through the 2000s read as steady progression through litigation and civil practice environments.

By 2019 Cortright was serving as senior counsel, a role he held at both Tyson Mendes and O Brien Law. Those positions placed him in advisory and supervisory roles, handling matters that required experience and judgment. Two years later he launched a new chapter. In 2021 he became the principal lawyer at The Rowan Firm, the office he now heads. His office location is listed under that firm name.

He is admitted to practice in California and before the Ninth Circuit. He also maintains membership in the Sonoma County Bar Association, listed as current since 2021. Those affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with local and federal practice communities rather than bar leadership or academic appointments.

Colleagues describe his career as steady and practical. He has moved from associate posts into senior counsel roles and then into firm leadership. The work has included litigation and client counseling across civil matters. He has experience in both boutique and large-firm settings, which has shaped how he manages cases and client expectations.

Cortright’s practice today is centered at The Rowan Firm, where he handles cases arising in California and appeals within the Ninth Circuit. He continues to work from that office and remains active in the local bar association. His current practice focuses on civil litigation and appellate matters out of his Sonoma County base.
