About Damien
Damien Smith built a law career that stays close to New York’s courts. He studied at St. John’s University School of Law and went on to practice in both state and federal venues around the city.
He earned his law degree at St. John’s University School of Law. The program placed him in a network of local practitioners and community organizations that would inform his later choices about where and how to practice.
Early in his career he joined Duffy & Duffy, PLLC. He remains with that firm. His work there has put him in regular contact with trial calendars and motion practice in local courthouses. He is admitted to the bar in New York and to the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, which means much of his litigation experience spans both state and federal dockets.
Outside the courtroom, he has maintained memberships in several civic and professional groups. He belongs to Catholic Lawyers, the St. Patrick’s Society of Queens, the Flushing Lawyers Club and the Queens County Bar Association. Those affiliations reflect his ties to Queens and to legal communities that overlap social, civic and professional life in the borough.
Colleagues describe his practice as centered on courtroom matters and client representation before judges in the region. He routinely prepares briefs, argues at hearings and handles discovery. His caseload exposes him to the procedural variations between state and federal practice and requires attention to deadlines and court rules.
He keeps a practical approach to client work. He explains options plainly and weighs litigation risks against possible outcomes. That method helps clients understand what to expect when a matter moves between municipal courts and the federal district benches.
Smith lives and works in the area he serves. He maintains an office at Duffy & Duffy, PLLC and continues to represent clients in the New York courts and in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, where his current practice focuses on litigation in those venues.
