About Courtney
Courtney Edwards earned a B.S. in marketing from the University of Wyoming in 2007 and a J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 2013. Her academic record places her among a generation of lawyers who moved quickly from law school into courtroom work. The combination of a business-oriented undergraduate degree and a law degree has informed the practical, case-centered approach she brings to practice.
She began her legal career in public service. In 2013 she joined the 5th Judicial District Lawyers Office as a deputy district lawyer. Those early years put her in courtrooms and in the trenches of day-to-day prosecution and case preparation. The work gave her a grounding in trial procedure, witness work and the pressures of a high-volume docket.
After several years in the public sector, Edwards transitioned to private practice. In 2017 she became an associate at Carlson & Carlson, Lawyers at Law, P.C. She moved into firm leadership in 2019 when she took the role of managing partner at Carlson Edwards, Lawyers at Law. The shift from associate to managing partner broadened her responsibilities. She retained client-facing work while taking on administrative and supervisory duties.
Edwards is licensed in Colorado and holds memberships in local professional organizations. She has been a member of the Continental Divide Bar Association since 2017 and joined the Colorado Women’s Bar Association in 2022. Those affiliations reflect steady participation in regional bar activities and networking within the state’s legal community.
Her career path shows a mix of courtroom experience and law firm management. Colleagues describe her as someone who understands both the mechanics of litigation and the realities of running a practice. She has worked on matters that require courtroom presence, detailed case preparation and coordination of client needs. Her background in marketing also informs how she approaches client communication and case strategy.
Outside the office she keeps ties to the legal community through bar association work and local professional contacts. She has stayed active in the networks that connect rural and urban lawyers across Colorado, which can affect how cases are staffed and managed.
Courtney Edwards is currently the managing partner at Carlson Edwards, Lawyers at Law, where her practice emphasizes courtroom work, client counseling and the operational demands of running a small firm.
