About Colleen M
Colleen M. Kirby began her legal path with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Delaware in 2000 and earned her J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2004. She remained tied to Maryland courts early in her career and built a résumé that includes both appellate work and courtroom experience.
She served as a law clerk to the Hon. Joseph F. Murphy, Jr. in 2007, working at both the Maryland Court of Appeals and the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. That year exposed her to appellate procedure and written legal analysis at the state’s higher courts. The following year she joined the Howard County State’s Lawyer’s Office as an Assistant State’s Lawyer, where she handled prosecutorial responsibilities and regular court appearances.
After several years in public service, Kirby moved to private practice. In 2012 she joined Price Benowitz LLP as an associate lawyer. Her time there involved daily practice in Maryland courts and further development of trial and case-management skills. Two years later she founded her own firm, listing herself as Owner/Partner of the Law Office of Colleen M. Kirby, Esq. beginning in 2014.
Kirby maintains memberships in professional organizations that align with the work she does. She is a current member of the Maryland Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and holds membership in the DUI Defense Lawyers Association. Those affiliations reflect an ongoing engagement with practitioners who handle criminal and impaired-driving matters across the state.
Her career path — from appellate clerkships to a county prosecutor’s office and then into private practice — has given her experience on both sides of criminal cases. She has handled courtroom matters and appeals, and she draws on that background when representing clients. Colleen M. Kirby practices in Maryland state courts and manages her own caseload out of the Law Office of Colleen M. Kirby, Esq.
Her current practice handles criminal defense and DUI cases in Maryland.
