About Colin
Colin Maher built a foundation in finance before turning to law. He earned a B.S. in finance from Miami University of Ohio in 2003, after beginning his undergraduate studies in 1999. He went on to study law at both Ohio State University and the University of Toledo College of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2009.
His legal education came at a time of steady change in how courts and police address impaired-driving cases. Maher pursued specialized training in that area, completing the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration’s Field Sobriety Test Practitioner program. That credential informs his handling of roadside testing issues and the technical evidence that often shapes DUI cases.
Maher is admitted to practice in Ohio and Colorado. He has worked across state lines enough to understand differences in procedure and evidentiary standards. Colleagues say his background in finance helps when cases raise questions about insurance, restitution, or the financial impact of criminal penalties.
Early in his career Maher balanced courtroom appearances with intensive case preparation. He has experience cross-examining witnesses and working with expert testimony, particularly on matters that intersect with forensic testing. He also spends time reviewing the procedures law enforcement used during stops and arrests, and the written reports that follow those interactions. That work feeds directly into motions practice and trial strategy in traffic-related prosecutions.
Clients who hire Maher can expect detailed attention to technical records and to the sequence of events that led to a stop. He tends to prioritize clear explanations of complex tests and legal standards. That approach helps nonlawyers understand the choices they face, from plea negotiations to challenging evidence at trial.
Outside of litigation, Maher continues to update his knowledge of impaired-driving science and traffic law developments. He attends training and reviews new guidance on sobriety testing and evidentiary matters so that his courtroom positions reflect current practice. He also draws on his finance background when cases involve monetary calculations or restitution issues.
He practices law in both Ohio and Colorado, applying his sobriety testing credential to cases involving impaired driving and related traffic matters.
