About Cody

Cody Long earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Boise State University before moving east to study law. He received his Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law–Camden in 2005. Those years of study paired classroom work with practical training at a time when criminal procedure and forensic evidence were changing rapidly. He left law school prepared to work in courtrooms rather than behind a desk.

He is licensed to practice in Idaho and has built a career centered on criminal defense work there. Early in his practice he handled a mix of misdemeanors and felonies, learning how cases move from initial arrest through plea negotiations and trial. He belongs to several professional groups, including The National Trial Lawyers, the American Institute of DUI/DWI Lawyers, and America’s Top 100 Criminal Defense Lawyers, affiliations that keep him connected to peers and continuing legal education.

Long’s courtroom work covers a range of criminal matters. He represents clients charged with DUI and other traffic-related offenses, as well as those facing more serious criminal allegations. He appears in both state and municipal courts. He prepares motions, argues hearings, and represents clients at bench and jury trials. Colleagues describe him as straightforward in court and thorough in preparation.

Outside the courtroom he spends time on case investigation and client interviews. He reviews police reports and consults with experts when evidence calls for technical analysis. He negotiates with prosecutors when doing so serves a client’s interest, and he brings contested matters to trial when negotiations do not resolve them. His practice touches on sentencing issues and post-conviction options as well.

Over the years Long has kept his practice rooted in day-to-day litigation work rather than academic pursuits or public office. He has not been publicly listed with judicial or statewide bar leadership roles, and he does not appear to maintain an office listing in national directories. He remains active in trial-focused professional organizations and continues to take cases that require courtroom advocacy.

He practices in Idaho, handling criminal defense and DUI/DWI matters for clients throughout the state, and now concentrates his work on representing individuals charged in criminal and traffic-related cases.
