About Clifford
Clifford Mermell began his professional journey in the classroom before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Colorado–Boulder in 1981 and completed his J.D. at the University of Miami in 1989. Those academic foundations framed a career that has spanned trial work, appellate practice and firm management.
He entered practice as an associate in 1989 at Underwood, Gillis & Karcher, P.A. He joined Levine, Busch, Schnepper & Stein, P.A. as an associate in 1993. Three years later he took on greater responsibility as Managing Senior Partner at Gillis, Mermell & Pacheco, P.A. in 1996. Those roles involved litigation management, client counseling and supervising other lawyers within the firms.
Mermell is admitted to practice in Florida and in federal appellate courts, including the 11th Circuit and the Federal Circuit. He is Board Certified as a Workers' Compensation Lawyer by the Florida State Bar and holds an AV rating from Martindale Hubbard. Those credentials reflect a practice concentrated in workplace injury law and related appellate matters.
Colleagues and court records show a practice built on courtroom work and written advocacy. He has handled cases at the trial level and presented arguments on appeal. The mix of trial and appellate experience has informed how he approaches claims, evidence and legal strategy. Over the years he has also carried administrative responsibilities that come with managing a law firm, such as overseeing case flow and mentoring junior attorneys.
Clients have encountered him on matters that involve injured workers, benefits disputes and procedural questions that arise in state and federal forums. His work often requires coupling technical knowledge of workers' compensation statutes with practical courtroom skills. He has been active in the same general field since the late 1980s, practicing in Florida and before the federal courts listed in his admissions.
Today he remains engaged in workers' compensation and related litigation, balancing appellate filings, trial preparation and the managerial duties that accompany a leadership role in a law firm. He currently focuses his practice on workers' compensation matters.
