About Claire D.
Claire D. Hancock has practiced law for more than three decades. She completed a B.A. in political science at the University of Houston in 1985 and earned her J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 1988. Those years set the stage for a career spent largely in civil litigation and injury matters.
Her early years in practice began in Florida. In 1992 she joined Mark Shelton, P.A. as an associate, where she worked on civil cases and courtroom work. Five years later she moved to The Yerrid Law Office as an associate, expanding her trial experience and client work. In 2000 she became a partner at Hancock Injury Lawyers, a role she has held since then.
Hancock’s professional activity extends beyond the office. She has served on the editorial board for Florida Bar News and the Florida Bar Journal since 2017. That work has kept her involved in conversations about practice trends and legal developments across the state. From 2017 to 2019 she also served as a Master in the American Inns of Court, a role that placed her in mentoring and professional-development activities with other lawyers and judges.
Her memberships reflect a regional and subject-matter focus. Hancock belongs to the Florida Justice Association (since 1999) and the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association (since 2005). She has been a member of the North Tampa Bar Association since 2008 and the Carrollwood Area Business Association since 2010. She also participates in the Hillsborough County chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, joining that group in 2004.
Courtroom work and trial practice have been an ongoing part of Hancock’s career. Colleagues and professional organizations have consistently involved her in continuing legal education and bar activities. Her editorial role at the Florida Bar has given her a platform to engage on statewide legal issues, while local bar and business memberships have kept her connected to the Tampa legal community.
She is admitted to practice in Florida and in the District of Columbia. Her partnership at Hancock Injury Lawyers anchors her day-to-day practice, where she handles litigation, represents injured clients, and participates in trial preparation. Her current practice centers on personal injury litigation in Florida and the District of Columbia.
