About Christopher

Christopher York graduated from Fordham University School of Law in 1980. His legal education came at a time of shifting criminal justice practices, and it set the stage for a long career in county-level prosecution and local bar leadership. He entered the profession equipped to move between courtroom work and office management.

Soon after law school, York took a prosecutorial path. In 1983 he joined the Westchester County District Lawyer’s office as an Assistant District Lawyer and later served as Deputy Bureau Chief. Those years put him in regular contact with trial calendars, discovery practice and the daily demands of a busy county office. The work required frequent courtroom appearances and supervision of junior lawyers.

By 2001 York had moved to Putnam County, where he became Chief Assistant District Lawyer. In that role he managed case flow and helped oversee prosecutorial operations. The title reflected expanded administrative duties as well as continued courtroom responsibilities. Colleagues from that period describe an attorney comfortable in both trial settings and the tasks of running an office.

Outside the courthouse, York has been active in local and state bar organizations. He has served as a director of the Putnam County Bar Association since 2011. He joined the New York State Bar Association in 2013 and became a member of the New York State Defenders Association in 2014. Earlier, from 2005 to 2013, he sat on the board of an Alternatives to Incarceration program. That mix of roles places him at the intersection of prosecutorial practice and efforts to explore different responses to crime and community supervision.

York’s career is marked by long service in county offices and steady participation in professional groups. He has moved from hands-on courtroom work to roles that required oversight and coordination across offices. The experience spans trial advocacy, case management and bar governance.

He currently practices as an attorney at law. His current work draws on years of trial and courtroom experience and on his time managing county prosecutorial operations.
