About Christopher L.
Christopher L. DeCort earned his law degree from Florida State University College of Law after completing undergraduate studies at the University of Florida. He arrived in the legal profession on a solid academic footing and moved into practice in Florida and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Those admissions have shaped the kinds of matters he handles and the forums where he appears.
Early in his career DeCort joined firms that handled business and commercial disputes. Over time he developed experience in transactional matters and litigation connected to commercial enterprises. He maintains active bar memberships, including the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar and the Hillsborough County Bar Association, both of which he has been part of since the 2010s. He also holds membership in the Federal Bar Association and is admitted to practice in the Eleventh Circuit.
DeCort’s professional affiliations extend beyond bar groups. He spent time with Tampa Connection from 2014 until 2022 and was involved with the Tampa Metropolitan YMCA from 2012 to 2017. These roles reflect a pattern of local engagement in Tampa Bay organizations that intersect with business and community interests.
He practices at Johnson, Newlon & DeCort, P.A., where his work has included drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, advising corporate clients, and representing parties in state and federal courts. At the firm he handles matters that require both courtroom experience and transactional judgment. Colleagues describe his practice as steady and pragmatic, oriented toward resolving disputes and guiding routine corporate decisions.
Clients and fellow lawyers encounter DeCort in litigation settings and at the negotiating table. He has handled breach of contract cases and other business disputes that arise out of commercial relationships. In transactional matters he prepares and reviews agreements, assists with corporate governance questions, and advises on regulatory concerns that affect Florida businesses.
Outside of casework, DeCort remains involved in professional circles that influence business law practice in Florida. His ongoing memberships in the Business Law Section and the Hillsborough County Bar Association keep him connected to legal developments and local networks. He also brings experience from regional civic organizations to his advisory work.
He continues to practice at Johnson, Newlon & DeCort, P.A., where he concentrates his practice on business law, commercial litigation, and corporate transactional work.
