About Christopher James

Christopher James Acklin earned his J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2007, where he concentrated his studies on environmental and real estate law. His coursework and clinic work at Cooley exposed him to regulatory frameworks and property issues in Michigan. He left law school equipped to practice in areas that intersect state regulation and land use.

After passing the bar, Acklin built his career in Michigan. He is licensed to practice in the state and has spent his professional life working in the Grand Rapids legal community. In 2012 he became a partner at Grand Rapids Law Group, PLLC. The promotion followed several years of practice during which he took on increasingly complex matters at the firm.

Acklin’s background is grounded in the subjects he studied in law school. His practice draws on environmental and real estate law, and he applies that background to client matters handled at the firm. Colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic in meetings and in negotiations. He often works with local officials, regulators and private clients, aiming to resolve disputes or move transactions forward.

As a partner, Acklin has taken on supervisory responsibilities while continuing a caseload. He manages client relationships and mentors junior attorneys at the firm’s main office in Grand Rapids. He also helps shape how the firm approaches issues that touch both property and environmental regulation, balancing legal analysis with practical steps clients can take.

Over the years Acklin has maintained a practice that is regional in scope, centered on Michigan law. He handles matters that require familiarity with state statutes and local practice norms. His work often involves drafting documents, advising on compliance and representing clients in discussions with agencies or opposing parties.

Outside of client work, Acklin stays connected to developments in environmental and real estate law by tracking legislative and regulatory changes that affect his clients. He emphasizes clear communication and realistic advice when explaining options. He currently practices at Grand Rapids Law Group, PLLC, handling environmental and real estate matters from the firm’s main Grand Rapids office.
