About Christopher D

Christopher D. Cavazos took a pragmatic path into law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003, then continued at St. Mary’s University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2005. Those years set the technical foundation for a career spent largely in Texas courtrooms.

He began public service early. In 2004 he served as a criminal prosecutor at the Atascosa County Lawyers Office. That role put him behind the government’s table and in front of judges and juries. The experience shaped his courtroom approach and gave him firsthand exposure to case preparation under pressure.

After law school he opened the Law Office of Christopher D. Cavazos in 2005. That firm was his base for years, where he handled matters arising in state courts and built a trial practice. In 2019 he took on a new role as a lawyer at Barrera, Cavazos & Powers Law, joining a team that expanded the range of matters he handled and exposed him to more complex casework.

Throughout his career he has kept strong ties to the local bar. He holds an executive membership in the Atascosa Bar Association, a role that keeps him connected to county courts and the local bench. That involvement has also meant regular interaction with prosecutors, defense lawyers and judges across South Texas.

Cavazos’s work has centered on criminal matters. His years as a prosecutor give him insight into how cases unfold from the state’s perspective. His years in private practice have put him on the other side of those same files — testing evidence, challenging procedure and advocating for clients. He has handled arraignments, pretrial hearings and jury trials, and he brings that practical courtroom experience to each new case.

His professional journey reflects steady movement between public service and private practice. He has operated his own practice, joined a regional firm, and maintains office affiliations with BRCK Criminal Defense Lawyers. That mix of settings has let him advise clients in rural counties as well as in more populated parts of Texas.

He is admitted to practice in Texas and remains active in local legal circles. He now handles criminal defense matters at BRCK Criminal Defense Lawyers, representing clients in state courts across Texas.
