About Christine S.
Christine S. Janis built a steady path into the law over more than two decades of study and practice. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in English Education and History in 1994, followed by a Master of Arts in Sociology/Criminology in 2003. She later earned her Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 2016 and also holds a Certificate in Criminal Practice from the same school. Those academic credentials bookend a long interest in the intersection of social science and the legal system.
Her early legal experience included a 711 internship in 2015 with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. That placement put her in a prosecutorial environment during law school and gave her exposure to courtroom procedure and case preparation. After passing into private practice she joined Van Der Snick Law Office, Ltd. as an associate in 2017. Two years later she moved to Castlebrook Law, P.C., where she continued handling matters as an associate attorney.
Janis then spent a period as an associate at Mulyk Laho Law, LLC in 2022. In 2023 she took an Of Counsel position at Arteaga Law, LLC. Her career track shows steady movement through small and mid-sized firms and a variety of roles that have included both litigation support and client-facing responsibilities. The sequence of positions suggests hands-on work in court and at counsel tables.
Outside of casework she has maintained active ties to the bar. She has been a member of the Illinois State Bar Association since 2012 and holds memberships in local bar groups including the Kane County, DuPage County and Kendall County bar associations. She is also listed with Phi Alpha Delta West Suburban Illinois Alumni Chapter. Those affiliations reflect sustained participation in the legal community across multiple counties.
Janis’s background blends academic study in criminology and law with practical experience gained in prosecutor’s offices and private practice. Her Certificate in Criminal Practice is one clear indicator of training geared toward courtroom work. She has worked in firms where litigation and courtroom readiness are part of daily practice, and she has moved into an Of Counsel role after several years as an associate.
She is currently Of Counsel at Arteaga Law, LLC, where her practice is informed by her criminal practice training and prior courtroom experience.
