About Chris

Chris Beddow trained as a historian before turning to the law. He earned a B.A. in United States History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008. Seven years later he received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2015. Those academic years frame the start of a legal career that spans both state and federal practice.

After law school he gained admission to the South Carolina bar in 2015. He added membership in the North Carolina bar in 2016 and is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. That combination of state and federal admissions has allowed him to appear in courts across two jurisdictions.

Beddow practices at Powers Law Office PA. He is part of a small firm setting where attorneys frequently handle matters directly for clients and appear in court. Colleagues describe him as methodical and exacting in his preparation. Clients see an attorney who explains the steps of a case in plain terms and who attends to procedural details.

Courtroom work and courtroom preparation take up a significant portion of his time. He prepares pleadings and motions, manages discovery, and handles oral arguments in both trial and motion settings. His admissions in South Carolina state courts and the federal district court allow him to address disputes that require a presence in multiple forums. He also works on transactional and advisory matters when needed, advising individuals and businesses on procedural and compliance questions.

His background in history informs an analytical approach. Research skills learned as an undergraduate carry over into legal research and case construction. He tends to build cases around chronology and documentary records, looking for the forms of proof that judges and clerks expect to see.

Outside courtroom calendars and client meetings he maintains memberships in the state bars of North Carolina and South Carolina, active since 2016 and 2015 respectively. He participates in professional gatherings and continuing legal education to stay current on developments that affect litigation practice.

He lives and practices in the Carolinas and handles matters that arise in both South Carolina and North Carolina courts. He currently practices at Powers Law Office PA, representing clients in matters before state and federal courts in South Carolina and North Carolina.
