About Chelsea Marie

Chelsea Marie Hillman entered law from an unconventional angle. She studied anthropology and creative writing at Northern Kentucky University, earning a B.A. in 2012. That combination fed an interest in how people tell their stories. She went on to Valparaiso University School of Law, completing her law degree in 2014 and moving quickly into practice.

Hillman’s early legal training included a stint as a certified legal intern at the Valparaiso Immigration Clinic in 2016. There she worked on immigration matters and handled client interviews, legal research, and case preparation. The clinic experience offered hands-on exposure to client advocacy and to the procedures that shape immigration cases.

By 2018 she had joined Modern Family Law as a lawyer. Her work at that firm has centered on family law issues. She has handled cases involving divorce, child custody, parenting time, and support matters. Court filings, negotiation and courtroom appearances have been part of her regular workload.

Hillman is licensed to practice in both Colorado and New York. That geographic range lets her advise clients with ties to either state and raises practical questions about jurisdiction and enforcement that sometimes shape case strategy. Her dual admissions have also required staying current on rules and procedure across two state bars.

Her undergraduate studies in anthropology and creative writing show through in her approach to cases. She emphasizes clear written work and attention to personal narrative. That background helps when preparing declarations, client statements and settlement narratives. She pairs that with the procedural knowledge developed in law school and in clinic work.

Colleagues describe her as methodical in preparing files and direct in client conversations. She tends to break complex legal issues into straightforward steps, and she prioritizes explaining options so clients can make informed decisions. Her resume to date is compact but consistent: law degree in 2014, immigration clinic work in 2016, and firm practice beginning in 2018.

She currently practices at Modern Family Law and handles family law matters in Colorado and New York.
