About Charles H. Nugent
Charles H. Nugent Jr. built his legal foundation at the University of Houston, where he earned a B.A. in 1981. He went on to earn a J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 1986. Those years set the stage for a courtroom career that has spanned federal and state benches.
He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and holds admissions to several federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, the Third and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. That mix of state and federal credentials has allowed him to take matters from trial court through appellate review when necessary.
Nugent has served as managing partner of Nugent Law since 1998, a role that has combined case management, litigation strategy and firm leadership. As a lead lawyer he has overseen trial preparation and courtroom work for matters that proceed to jury trial. The New Jersey Supreme Court has certified him as a Civil Trial Lawyer, a recognition that signals experience handling civil jury trials under state standards for certification.
His professional affiliations run to both plaintiff and defense communities. He holds memberships in the American Association for Justice and its New Jersey chapter, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Burlington County Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Those memberships reflect a practice that moves between civil litigation and criminal matters and engages peers on developments in trial advocacy and litigation tactics.
Colleagues describe Nugent as a lawyer who prepares cases for trial and who expects the work required to get there. He has carried cases in state and federal courts and maintained active involvement in bar organizations that address trial procedure and client representation. He has appeared in federal appellate courts and handled proceedings before the state high court in related certification contexts.
Today Nugent continues to lead Nugent Law. He maintains admissions across multiple jurisdictions and remains active in trial work, representing clients in both civil trials and criminal defense matters.
