About Casey R
Casey R Baxter took a less direct path to law. He earned a B.B.A. in Business Management from the University of Houston in 2005 and completed his J.D. at the University of Denver in 2010. The business background shows through in deliberate career moves. The law degree arrived after years spent in service and industry, and it shaped the next chapter of his professional life.
Before law school, Baxter served as a helicopter crew chief in the United States Marine Corps beginning in 1997. That period established early experience in leadership and operations. He later moved into civilian security work as a manager for the Boise and Meridian School Districts in 2001. Those roles preceded a brief career in finance, where he held licenses — the Series 7 and Series 66 — while working as a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley in 2011.
Baxter’s formal entry into legal practice began with summer and volunteer positions at the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office. He was a summer intern in 2009 and a volunteer deputy district attorney in 2010. Those early prosecutorial roles led to a paid post as deputy district attorney in 2012. He later served as president of the Deschutes County District Attorney Association from 2014 to 2015, a role that involved coordination among local practitioners.
In 2015 Baxter left the public sector to start his own practice, opening Baxter Law that year and then helping establish Baxter Law, LLC in 2016 as a co-founding partner. He also spent time on local boards, including a stint on the Bend Lawyer Group board from 2016 to 2017 and ongoing service on the board of Central Oregon Veteran’s Outreach beginning in 2017. Professional memberships include the Oregon State Bar, the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the DUI Defense Lawyers Association, and the National Trial Lawyers Association.
His résumé blends criminal court experience and business training. Prosecutorial work gives him courtroom familiarity. The financial-advisor background provides a different perspective on cases that touch on economic or regulatory issues. He has maintained ties to veterans’ services while participating in criminal defense associations, indicating a continued interest in both community and professional engagement.
Baxter practices in Oregon and currently works at Baxter Harder, LLC, handling criminal defense and related matters.
