About Cary
Cary Dohman began her academic path in the Midwest. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and History from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2005. A decade later she completed her Juris Doctor at The John Marshall Law School in 2015. Those years tied reporting and legal training together, giving her an unusual mix of newsroom instincts and courtroom preparation.
Her early career was not strictly legal. In 2007 she worked as a media relations assistant for the Chicago Bears, a role that placed her at the crossroads of public communication and organizational strategy. She shifted into legal work in the following years. In 2012 she served as a law clerk in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. During 2013 she held multiple externships and clerk positions: she was a judicial extern to the Honorable William J. Haddad and served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Ann Claire Williams at the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. That same year she also worked as a law clerk at Ankin Law Office. In 2014 she spent a summer as a law clerk at Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald.
Soon after finishing law school, she moved into private practice. In 2015 she became a partner at Dohman Law Group. She maintains ties to the practice names Dohman Law and Dohman Law Group, and she handles matters from those offices. Her work since 2015 has been anchored in Illinois, where she is admitted to practice.
Dohman is active in local legal organizations. Since 2015 she has been a member of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association. Those memberships place her in regional networks that include both suburban and city practitioners.
Colleagues and clients have noted that her background in journalism informs how she approaches factual development and client communication. The combination of newsroom training and courtroom experience shows up in the way she prepares records and presents issues, and it shapes the professional persona she brings to hearings and client meetings.
Her resume records steady movement through public-sector clerkships and private practice roles, culminating in partnership and ongoing practice in the Chicago area. She currently practices at Dohman Law Group, serving clients in Illinois.
