About Caitlin K.
Caitlin K. Finnegan grew up interested in how people think and make decisions. She studied psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning a B.A. in 2008. She then went on to Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where she received her J.D. in 2013.
After law school, Finnegan began practicing law in Illinois. She joined Schwartz Injury Law in 2013 as a lawyer handling nursing home abuse and neglect matters. Her early years in practice involved learning the mechanics of personal injury litigation and applying that knowledge to cases involving vulnerable adults.
Finnegan’s work centers on nursing home abuse and neglect. She handles investigations, gathers medical records, interviews witnesses, and files complaints when warranted. She represents families seeking accountability for injuries or neglect that occurred in long-term care settings. Her role requires attention to medical detail and an understanding of both state regulations and civil procedure.
She maintains memberships in several professional organizations. Finnegan is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Chicago Bar Association. She also belongs to the Women’s Bar Association. These affiliations provide access to continuing legal education and the professional networks that inform courtroom and trial practice.
Throughout her career at Schwartz Injury Law, Finnegan has worked from multiple office locations across the Chicago area and northern Illinois. She is associated with the firm’s Chicago office and also has ties to the Orland Park, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, and Rockford offices. That geographic reach allows her to accept cases across the state and respond to client needs in different communities.
Her background in psychology informs her approach to client interviews and case strategy. It also helps when assessing the nonmedical impacts of neglect on a patient’s well-being and family life. In litigation, she focuses on building factual records and presenting those facts clearly to judges and juries.
Colleagues describe her as methodical and steady in the courtroom. She continues to develop litigation experience through trial preparation, hearings, and settlement negotiations. Finnegan remains licensed to practice in Illinois and practices civil litigation involving nursing home abuse and neglect matters as part of Schwartz Injury Law’s team.
