About Bruce N. Ringstrom
Bruce N. Ringstrom Jr. built a career around criminal defense that moves between courtrooms and consultation rooms. He earned his J.D. from Hamline University School of Law in 2008 and entered public defense work the year after, joining the Minnesota Public Defense system in 2009. Early courtroom years shaped his approach to trial preparation and client advocacy.
After several years as a public defender, Ringstrom struck out on his own. In 2013 he opened Ringstrom Law, representing individuals in criminal matters across Minnesota and North Dakota. The practice allowed him to take on a wider variety of cases and to manage all aspects of representation from arraignment through appeal. In 2021 he became a partner at Ringstrom DeKrey, a role he holds today.
Ringstrom is admitted to practice in both Minnesota and North Dakota. He earned recognition from his peers in the form of a Certified Specialist credential in Criminal Law from the Minnesota State Bar Association. He is also a graduate of the Public Defender Trial School run by the Office of the Minnesota Public Defender. Those credentials reflect a sustained connection to defense practice and to trial advocacy training.
Membership in professional organizations has been a steady part of his career. He has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2012. He also holds membership in the State Bar Association of North Dakota since 2016 and the North Dakota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2017. These affiliations have kept him plugged into developments in criminal law and local practice norms on both sides of the border.
Colleagues describe his courtroom work as methodical. He prepares witnesses and evidence with attention to detail. On motion practice and during cross-examination he tends to present arguments plainly and directly. That style has guided his work on a range of matters, from routine felony charges to more complex cases that require coordination with experts and investigators.
Ringstrom’s practice has included trial work, pretrial litigation and appellate matters. He has experience managing the practical demands of case investigation, client counseling and negotiation with prosecutors. Outside of court appearances, he spends time advising clients about the collateral consequences of convictions and about strategies for mitigation.
He serves as a partner at Ringstrom DeKrey and represents clients in state and federal criminal matters, including trials, appeals and sentencing issues.
