About Bruce

Bruce Kanuch entered the legal field after an unusual undergraduate course of study. He earned a B.S. from Purdue University in 1959 covering business, civil engineering and chemistry. The combination of technical and commercial training informed the early shape of his work and proved useful in matters that stretched across disciplines.

His first notable legal role came inside industry. In 1966 he served as Managing Counsel, Intellectual Property and Litigation, for The Dow Chemical Company. That position placed him at the center of disputes that touched on patents and product matters. It also involved coordinating litigation strategy and counseling business units on legal risks tied to technical developments.

Over the years he moved between in-house and private-practice settings. That path exposed him to both corporate decision-making and the demands of courtroom advocacy. His background in engineering and chemistry has allowed him to engage technical experts directly and to evaluate intricate inventions on their legal merits.

Kanuch is licensed in Michigan and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Those credentials reflect a practice that has long spanned state-court matters and federal appellate work. He has handled patent-related litigation and proceedings that required knowledge of both substantive patent law and the procedural mechanics of appeals.

At Currie Kendall PLC he practices as part of a team that handles intellectual property and litigation matters. His experience in industry continues to inform how he approaches client problems. He is known for taking a practical view of disputes, balancing technical detail against legal strategy and cost considerations.

Clients and colleagues have often relied on his ability to translate technical descriptions into legal arguments. That skill is useful in patent disputes, where understanding the technology can be as important as knowing the statute. He has navigated cases that required assembling the right expert testimony and framing complex issues for judges and juries.

Now in the later phase of his career, Kanuch remains active in matters involving intellectual property and litigation. He works out of Currie Kendall PLC and concentrates his practice on IP disputes, counseling on patent issues, and representation in appeals before the Federal Circuit.
