About Brian
Brian Shactman earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2007 and a J.D. from DePaul College of Law in 2013. He moved from the Midwest classroom to courtrooms and public offices in Chicago. His academic path put him on a steady track into litigation and public service.
Early in his career he worked outside the traditional law firm role. In 2008 he served as a project manager for DDC Adovocacy. While still in law school he spent time in public service, working in 2011 in the Cook County State's Lawyer, Consumer Fraud Unit. Those positions gave him exposure to case management and regulatory enforcement before he took a counsel’s chair.
After finishing law school he joined Leopold & Associates, L.L.C. as a lawyer in 2013. At the firm he has continued the practical work he began earlier: preparing cases, developing records, and appearing before judges in Illinois courts. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and his background includes both state and federal matters.
Shactman maintains active memberships in professional organizations. He is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Chicago Bar Association. Those affiliations connect him to other litigators and to programming on trial practice, ethics, and procedural developments in Illinois courts.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in the courtroom and thorough in pretrial work. He has worked on consumer fraud matters through his public-sector experience and has handled civil matters in private practice. His practice at Leopold & Associates, L.L.C. involves filing and defending claims in Illinois state court and in federal court in the Northern District of Illinois.
He continues to practice at Leopold & Associates, L.L.C., focusing his work on litigation in Illinois and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
