About Brian R.
Brian R. Zimmerman moved from engineering into law over the course of a single decade. He earned a B.S. in civil engineering from Marquette University in 2006 and stayed in Milwaukee to complete his J.D. at Marquette University Law School in 2009. The combination of technical training and legal education guides much of his work today.
He began his legal career at Hurtado Zimmerman SC and is listed as a shareholder there beginning in 2009. Over the years he has handled matters that sit at the crossroads of construction, property and litigation. His engineering background often shapes how he approaches case facts and documents. He is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and in the Federal Circuit, which informs the range of disputes he can bring before federal tribunals.
Title work is a formal part of his practice. Zimmerman holds a Title Examiner certification from the Lawyer’s Title Guaranty Fund and has continued to work on title-related issues alongside construction and real estate disputes. That mix reflects the practical demands of clients who encounter overlapping problems: contract performance, lien claims, title defects and the litigation those issues sometimes trigger.
Outside the office he maintains ongoing ties to professional and community organizations. He is a current member of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction Law, which keeps him engaged with peers on developments in construction litigation and risk allocation. He has also served on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha since 2009, a long-running involvement that connects legal work to neighborhood-level housing needs.
Colleagues describe his approach as pragmatic and detail-oriented. He tends to break complex construction disputes into discrete technical and legal issues, then work through them step by step. That method dovetails with his training as an engineer and his courtroom experience. He handles negotiation, title examination and contested matters, and he regularly advises clients on documentation and risk management tied to building projects and property transfers.
He continues to practice at Hurtado Zimmerman SC. His current work centers on construction-related disputes, real estate title matters and litigation that spans state and federal courts.
