About Brian M.
Brian M. Latuga has built a career that bridges public safety, emergency medical services and the law. He moved from hands-on first-response roles into courtroom work. The transitions are evident in the mix of his credentials and the cases he takes to court.
Latuga completed his undergraduate work at James Madison University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2004. He later attended Regent University School of Law and received his Juris Doctor in 2013. Those academic steps sit at the foundation of a varied professional path.
His early work was rooted in emergency response. As a teenager and young adult he served with Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, rising to deputy chief and working as an EMT-Intermediate. He also worked as an EMT-Medic for Lifeline Ambulance Service. Those roles were followed by patrol work at the Harrisonburg Police Department and later the Virginia Beach Police Department. He earned a PADI Divemaster certification in 2005 and a cave diver certification through the NSS-CDS, credentials that reflect interests beyond the office and courtroom.
After law school, Latuga moved into prosecutorial work. In 2013 he joined the Virginia Beach Office of the Commonwealth’s Lawyer as a Senior Assistant Commonwealth Lawyer. That position gave him regular courtroom experience representing the commonwealth in criminal matters. He is admitted to practice in Virginia and in federal courts, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.
Latuga’s career path later included a brief detour into real estate; in 2014 he was listed as a real estate agent with Hamilton s Realty. By 2017 he had entered private practice as a partner at Wolcott Rivers Gates. At that firm he brings the perspective of a former prosecutor and a background in emergency services to litigation and case preparation.
He maintains memberships in several legal associations, including the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Norfolk Portsmouth Bar Association and the Virginia Beach Bar Association. Those memberships reflect an ongoing engagement with both trial practice and criminal defense circles. He also retains his diving and cave-diving certifications, an unusual combination of skills for a trial lawyer.
Latuga currently works at Wolcott Rivers Gates, handling matters in Virginia state and federal courts as part of his practice focus.
