About Brian
Brian Custy trained first as an engineer and then turned to the law. He earned a B.S. in civil engineering in 1997 and later attended Valparaiso University School of Law, completing his J.D. in 2006. Years after law school he returned to a courtroom training environment at the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College in 2016, sharpening skills for contested matters.
His legal career began immediately after law school at Kenneth J. Allen & Associates in 2006, where he worked as a trial lawyer. A year later he moved into private practice at Sidley Austin LLP as an associate, gaining experience at a large firm. By 2010 he was handling matters for closely held businesses and individual clients, a period that broadened his civil litigation experience. In 2018 he established Custy Law Office | Accident & Injury Lawyers, focusing his practice on personal injury and accident cases.
Custy is admitted in both Illinois and Indiana, and he maintains appellate admissions in the Seventh and Ninth Circuits. Those credentials reflect a practice that ranges from state-court trials to federal appeals. His courtroom background and his engineering training combine when cases involve vehicle dynamics, accident reconstruction, or complex liability issues.
He has been active in professional organizations throughout his career. He joined the Indiana Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association and several local bar groups in 2010. He became a member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association in 2015. Nationally, he joined the American Association for Justice in 2016 and the Academy for Truck Accident Lawyers in 2017, affiliations that align with his trial work and the injury claims he pursues.
Colleagues describe Custy as a trial lawyer who prepares cases for trial and moves them through the system with an emphasis on evidence and advocacy. He has handled matters for individuals and small businesses, and he has experience representing clients in serious injury and automobile accident litigation. His engineering background often informs how he approaches technical aspects of transportation and crash-scene proof.
Today he operates out of Custy Law Office | Accident & Injury Lawyers, maintaining an office in Merrillville. He represents clients in accident and injury cases in state and federal courts across Illinois and Indiana, as well as in appeals where he is admitted to the Seventh and Ninth Circuits. He currently handles accident and injury litigation at Custy Law Office | Accident & Injury Lawyers.
