About Brian

Brian Beckcom trained as a lawyer after a rigorous undergraduate course of study in computer science and philosophy. He earned both his B.S. and his J.D. from Texas A&M University–College Station. The combination of technical and analytical coursework shaped a methodical approach to fact patterns and legal argument.

He began his professional career in a large law firm environment at Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P., where he worked on matters that exposed him to complex litigation and practice in Texas. Over time he moved into a role at VB Lawyers and is now a partner there. His path covers both the institutional structure of a national firm and the practice rhythms of a regional litigation shop.

Maritime law has been a recurrent theme in his public work. He has been a speaker at the Texas Trial Lawyer’s Association Port Aransas Seminar on the Jones Act and maritime law, and he served as a panelist at the University of Texas Admiralty & Maritime Law Conference in 2005. He also holds membership in that conference. Those appearances reflect sustained engagement with admiralty topics among trial lawyers and shipowners active in Texas waters.

Outside of maritime circles, his academic background in computer science and philosophy informs how he approaches discovery, expert testimony and technical evidence. He tends to break problems into discrete elements and trace causation step by step. That approach can matter in cases that turn on operational logs, instrumentation data, or the chain of events leading to injury.

Colleagues describe his work as steady and detail-oriented. He litigates claims that arise under the Jones Act, general maritime law and related personal injury statutes. He prepares and presents cases in state and federal courts in Texas and represents clients in pretrial settings, depositions and evidentiary hearings.

At VB Lawyers he combines courtroom practice with seminar work intended for other lawyers and for industry audiences. He continues to participate in maritime law conferences and speaks on topics involving seamen’s rights and vessel liability. He maintains an active trial and case-management practice at his firm.

He is licensed to practice in Texas and continues to handle maritime and admiralty matters from the VB Lawyers office.
