About Brian A.

Brian A. Boys combines a finance degree and a law degree in a compact professional trajectory. He earned a B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and followed that with a J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law. The dual background informs how he approaches legal questions that touch on money, tax and long-term planning.

He began his legal career in the Richmond area and joined Oast & Hook PC in 2009. After several years there he moved to Oast & Taylor PLC in 2012 and continued his work on matters that intersect law and financial planning. In 2014 he founded Atlantic Law PLC. He has led that firm since its founding and runs the practice as its founder and lawyer.

Boys is admitted to practice in Virginia and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. His memberships reflect consistent involvement in estate and financial planning circles. He serves on the board of the Tidewater Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals and is the chapter’s vice president. He is also vice president of the Lefcoe Alumni Association.

He holds active memberships in the Virginia Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar. Locally, he participates in the Portsmouth Bar Association and the I. Anson Hoffman Inn of Court. He is also a member of the Hampton Roads Estate Planning Council, the Hampton Roads Gift Planning Council and the Portsmouth Task Force on Aging. Those affiliations inform the types of matters he most frequently sees in his practice.

Colleagues describe his work as pragmatic. He draws on his finance training when structuring trusts, advising on charitable gift plans and discussing tax implications with clients. He often works with families on planning for aging relatives, coordinating legal documents with financial and tax considerations. He also appears in federal court when litigation touches the firm’s clients and their estates.

Outside the office Boys takes part in local professional organizations and volunteer efforts tied to elder services and planned giving. His board roles require regular engagement with peers and professional development activities. He maintains a practice at Atlantic Law PLC where he concentrates on estate planning, gift planning and legal issues affecting older adults.
