About Brett Laurence

Brett Laurence Schlacter built his legal foundation through study at the University of Florida and further education at Nova Southeastern University. Those years framed his approach to the law and prepared him for courtroom work and government service. He practiced the craft in ways common to many young attorneys: research, drafting, and a steady accumulation of courtroom experience.

Early in his career he served as a law clerk to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. That clerkship gave him close exposure to federal litigation procedures and the daily rhythms of a busy trial court. Working alongside judges and staff, he developed a practical understanding of case management, evidentiary issues, and the cadence of motion practice.

After leaving the clerkship he moved into private practice. He later established Schlacter Law, a firm based in Florida. The firm handles matters across the state and interacts regularly with federal dockets when cases require it. At Schlacter Law he combines courtroom experience with the procedural lessons from his time at the federal courthouse.

Schlacter is active in professional circles. He holds memberships in several legal organizations and is a current member of the Florida Justice Association. That affiliation places him in conversation with trial lawyers on issues that affect civil practice in Florida. He also maintains connections with colleagues across firms and courts, a network that informs the practical work he performs for clients.

Colleagues describe him as precise in legal writing and deliberate in case preparation. He approaches problems by breaking them into discrete issues, then resolving each through research and motion practice when necessary. He views litigation as a series of decisions. That perspective shapes how he prepares for hearings and trials.

Outside the courtroom he has kept ties to his alma maters and to the legal community in Florida. He participates in continuing education and peer forums, and he follows developments in state and federal procedure that affect active litigation. Those activities keep his practice aligned with current rules and local practices.

He now practices through Schlacter Law in Florida. His current practice centers on handling matters in Florida state and federal courts.
