About Brent

Brent Thompson studied history and economics before turning to law. He earned a B.A. from Western Washington University in 2006, majoring in History/Social Studies with a minor in Economics. He then completed his J.D. at Liberty University School of Law in 2011. Those years shaped his approach to legal work: careful attention to facts, an eye for context, and an interest in how law affects everyday people.

He began practicing after law school and now serves as an attorney at Platt & Buescher Lawyers at Law. Over time he has handled cases in both state and federal forums. He is admitted to practice in Washington and is also authorized to appear in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. That combination of credentials allows him to work on matters that cross the line between state and federal jurisdictions.

Thompson’s courtroom work has involved criminal defense matters. He holds membership in the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, participating in a professional community that focuses on the representation of people accused of crimes. Colleagues describe him as practical in his approach to case preparation. He favors clear analysis over grandstanding, and he prepares files that can be used effectively at negotiation or trial.

Clients who come to him often face urgent decisions. He aims to explain options in plain language and to frame risks and benefits so they can make informed choices. He also spends time reviewing evidence and procedural issues that can change the course of a case. His academic background in history and economics sometimes comes into play when examining timelines, motive, or financial records.

At Platt & Buescher, Thompson works alongside other lawyers handling criminal matters. The firm handles a range of cases in municipal, superior, and federal courts across Washington. He splits his time between preparing defenses, handling pretrial hearings, and representing clients at trial when necessary. He maintains memberships in local professional organizations and continues to engage in continuing legal education.

Outside the courtroom, he keeps an eye on developments in criminal law and federal procedure that can affect clients in Washington. He practices criminal defense at Platt & Buescher Lawyers at Law, representing individuals in state and federal courts in Washington.
