About Brent
Brent Nielson has built a steady presence in Idaho’s courtroom work since the mid-2000s. He works on contested matters and appears regularly in state courts. His approach is straightforward and practical. He prepares cases for trial and manages the procedural demands that come with family law litigation.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University, earning a B.S. in 2002. He stayed in Provo for law school and received his J.D. from BYU Law School in 2005. Those years set the foundation for courtroom practice and procedural work that would define his early career.
Nielson was admitted to practice in Idaho in 2005. He holds memberships with the Idaho Supreme Court, the District Court of Idaho, and the United States District Court, all since 2005. He is also a member of the Idaho State Bar Family Law Litigation Section, reflecting where much of his courtroom activity is concentrated. Over two decades, those admissions have allowed him to handle matters in both state and federal forums when necessary.
His work centers on family law litigation. He handles custody disputes, child support cases, spousal support matters and the division of assets and debts. He manages pretrial discovery, evidentiary hearings and trials. His practice includes contested hearings and settlement negotiations, and he has experience guiding clients through the procedural steps that lead to resolution or trial.
At Roy, Nielson, Barini-García & Platts he practices alongside colleagues who handle a range of civil matters. The firm handles family-related litigation among other civil disputes. Nielson contributes to the firm’s litigation docket and focuses on courtroom preparation, motions practice and trial strategy. He balances legal advocacy with attention to court procedures and deadlines.
Outside of hearings and trials, Nielson participates in the family law community through the Idaho State Bar section. He reviews developments in family law and civil practice rules that affect litigious cases. That involvement helps him stay current on evolving standards and procedural changes in the region.
He continues to practice at Roy, Nielson, Barini-García & Platts, where his work remains centered on family law and related litigation matters.
