About Brent E.
Brent E. Labovitz built his foundation in Kansas and Illinois. He earned a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Kansas in 2000 and completed his J.D. at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology in 2005. Those early academic years set the stage for work on both sides of the courtroom.
His legal career began in the public sector and small firms. While still in law school he worked as an intern and law clerk at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in 2006. In 2007 he served as a judicial extern for the Illinois Appellate Court, First District, and also worked as a law clerk at Busse, Busse & Grasse, PC. He joined Weinberg & Rizzi as an associate in 2008, then moved into public defense in 2009 as an Assistant Public Defender with the Missouri State Public Defenders Office.
The next decade saw steady movement through private practice and partnerships. After a stint as a lawyer at Labovitz & Whiteley, LLC in 2011, he joined Kolker & Germeroth, LLC in 2012. He became an associate with DeFeo & Kolker, LLC in 2014, and then formed Kolker & Labovitz in 2018. In 2022 he assumed the role of managing partner at Labovitz Law Office.
Labovitz holds admission in both Missouri and Illinois. His work experience spans appellate clerking, public defense and private criminal defense practice. The mix of court-side and office-based roles gives him familiarity with trial preparation, client counseling and courtroom procedure. He has handled cases at different stages, from initial charging decisions to appeals.
Outside the office he has been active in professional groups and pro bono efforts. He has belonged to the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2011 and the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2010. He also maintains membership in the St. Louis County Bar Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. His volunteer service includes time with Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and the St. Louis County Older Residents Program. He carried a business membership in the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce for several years.
Colleagues and clients see him as an experienced courtroom lawyer who has moved between public defender work and private practice. He runs Labovitz Law Office as managing partner and continues to practice in Missouri and Illinois, handling criminal defense and related matters.
